We have reached more than 60,800 elderlies
We started with 620 elderlies in 2 slums in Pune city in January 2019, and today our work is in 216 slums, reaching 60,800 elderlies.
The program was expanded to Mumbai, Bhopal, rural Gwalior in 2021.
In April 22, we have rolled out our second rural project in Kambre village of Pune District.
In February 2024 Launched fourth urban project in Varanasi.
In July 2024 Launched fifth urban project in Delhi with 800 elderlies.
In April 2025, We also expanded to Lucknow.
In October 2025. we began expansions in Delhi and launched in Khairthal-Tijara, Rajasthan.
Released at the hands of the Dr. Virendra Kumar, Hon’ble Union Minister along with senior dignitaries including Shri Ramdas Athawale, Shri B.L. Verma, Dr. Vinod Paul, Shri Amit Yadav, Smt. Monali P. Dhakate and Dr. Benazir Patil, the toolkit provides a blueprint to actualize ‘ageing in place’. The release was followed by an engaging panel discussion on ‘Navigating Real-World Challenges in Elderly Care’, moderated by Dr.Gowri Nambiar Sengupta, Director, Central Health Education Bureau featuring perspectives from Dr. Pushpa Choudhary, Lead – Life Course, WHO India; Dr. K. Madan Gopal, Advisor, Public Health Administration, NHSRC; Dr. Sutapa Neogi, Director, IIHMR Delhi; Dr. Nidhi Pundhir, Global Head – CSR, HCL Foundation; and Mr. Jaydeep Biswas, Chief – Policy, Advocacy, and Partnerships, UNFPA
On 31st July 2024, Vriddha Mitra participated in the National Seminar on Ageing & Social Care for the Elderly, co-hosted by the World Bank and the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment at Dr. Ambedkar International Center, New Delhi. Dr. Benazir Patil presented the program’s journey, highlighting challenges and opportunities in implementing ‘Aging in Place’, an approach that promotes elderly care within homes and communities. The discussion emphasized the need for systems that ensure dignity, independence, and well-being for the elderly, even in socio-economically challenging conditions.
In February 2024, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment awarded a grant for implementing the Vriddha Mitra community-based project in Varanasi, leading to a collaboration with the local government. This partnership established a Geriatric Unit at Sarnath Community Health Center (CHC), providing physiotherapy services for the elderly. In September 2024, Honourable Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Smt. Anandiben Patel, formally inaugurated the Geriatric Unit and launched a new transport service to enhance elderly access to medical care. A thank-you letter was extended to SCHOOL for its contributions to elderly welfare.
